Chevrolet is showing two very different coupe concepts at Detroit. This, the Code 130R, is the more traditional of the two, with its three-box proportions. But its proportions aren’t the only familiarity – there are echoes of the BMW 1 Series Coupe running right through this car.
From the pinched bone line running down its flanks, the swollen rear fender surface and even its burn orange/red color, E82 references abound. But – lack of originality aside – the real issue is that its execution is far from as refined as you’d find from Munch. Its proportions are odd with a very high hood and scuttle, while the surface resolution is weak.
The result is therefore confusing – what exactly does the Code 130R say about the future of Chevy design? That it’s like an outgoing German coupe? Hardly progressive.
